Until we meet again

Your laughter fading in the air,
As I try to step on your footsteps in your favorite trail in the woods.
The days are long, but the years felt short
Like it was only yesterday when you told me to face the wall
Because I was being too loud at the dinner table.
The memories of that one afternoon,
Where we sat in the corner and ate ice cream
While it melted and dripped all the way to my fingers.
You taught me how to hold on to the ice cream cone
Just like how I’ve been holding on to this life.

Your hands that were once bigger than mine
Can no longer hold things the same way before.
Thank you for leaving footprints
So that I can walk the path you took.
It felt like yesterday when I put on your shoes
But they were too big for me
And now, I am the one wearing them.

Time is making everything gray,
Your hair,
And that one colorful picture we took one afternoon.
Photographs may turn gray as time passes by,
But the memory of you smiling and laughing in my head will stay the same.
Just like the pigeon fleeing the cage, I hope you soar high.
Your name is tattooed in our hearts and will be spoken with pride
Thank you for this life and until we meet again…..
